PROJECT
Contract for the “Papua New Guinea Power System Planning and Operation Capacity Improvement Project

Seed Okinawa LLC, a member of the Okinawa Electric Power Group, has been contracted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (“JICA”) for the “Papua New Guinea Power System Planning and Operation Capacity Improvement Project” together with Kansai Transmission and Distribution, Inc. and NEWJEC Inc., and signed the contract on January 14.
Papua New Guinea is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, and the power supply is unstable and power outages occur frequently, which is a major obstacle to economic activities and the improvement of the quality of public services.
The situation is caused by the lack of a systematic construction of power system facilities and proper maintenance of transmission lines and substations, as well as the lack of a system for detecting abnormalities in the power system.
This project provides technical assistance in the formulation of a power system plan, maintenance of transmission lines and substations, and the setting up of facilities to prevent large-scale power outages. We believe this can contribute to the stability of power supply and the improvement of power quality in the country.
The Okinawa Electric Power Group will contribute to solving issues related to the electric power system in Papua New Guinea by utilizing its accumulated knowledge and technical capabilities through technical assistance and international cooperation in the electric power business in developing countries, in corporation with Kansai Transmission and Distribution Inc. and NEWJEC Inc.
