Establishment of a New Company to Promote Overseas Businesses of the Okinawa Electric Power Group

Establishment of a New Company to Promote Overseas Business of the Okinawa Electric Power Group

April 30, 2021

We are pleased to announce that today we established “SeED Okinawa LLC” jointly with five group companies for the purpose of promoting overseas business development by leveraging the strengths of the Okinawa Electric Power Group.

We have been promoting the introduction of solar and wind power generation as a measure against global warming and to reduce costs on remote islands, and worked for many years on the development of grid stabilization technology using storage batteries and other means. Also, we have applied the knowledge gained through these efforts in the field of consulting in overseas island countries.

As social demands for global warming countermeasures increase worldwide, SeED Okinawa was established with the aim of providing customers around the world with a one-stop for products and services that take advantage of the Group’s strengths, such as survey, design, and construction for the introduction of renewable energy equipment.  The Group will continue its efforts to promote initiatives in overseas business areas more than ever before.

The name of the company, “SeED” is derived from Sustainable Energy Development.  Our mission is to “sow the seeds of sustainable energy development” from Okinawa to the world.

To promote further efforts to combat global warming, which is an important management issue, we have established a long-term guideline, “Okinawa Electric Power Company Zero Emission Initiatives: CO2 Emission Net Zero by 2050”.  One of our directions is to position renewable energy as the main power source.

The Okinawa Electric Power Group, through SeED Okinawa, will contribute to the development of sustainable energy on the world stage.
